Raclette Dinner Party
My first raclette dinner was at Krista and Stephen’s house with a small group of friends, Sarah, Heidi and Celine. We all arrived with a range of potluck offerings for the grill – meats, cheeses, bread, veggies, potatoes and seafood. And wine! Lots of wine. We gathered in the kitchen prepping the food and catching up before sitting down to a shared meal and a lovely evening of laughter and conversation.
Raclette refers to two things: a semi-hard cow's milk cheese from Switzerland, and a meal where you gather with friends around a table-top grill cooking small pieces of food in any combination you like, traditionally with melted cheese on top! The grill has a stone or metal surface and underneath are small trays where you melt your cheese. It’s a fun way to share an easy meal where everyone can pick and choose foods that best suit their taste.
I love visiting friend’s homes for small intimate dinner gatherings. I like to snoop around a little… checking out the cookbooks in the kitchen cupboard, admiring the carefully arranged artwork on the walls. Krista and Stephen’s home is warm, inviting and full of creative details that offer a sneak peek into their outdoor lifestyle and love of travelling. Soon after hosting this delicious dinner, they moved into to Lawrencetown with a desire to be closer the the ocean. I admire the importance they place on living a healthy lifestyle and being connected to nature. I can’t wait to spend some time with them in their new home.
This cooler time of year is ideal for a raclette dinner… gather your favourite ingredients and enjoy an evening warmed by a toasty grill and quality time spent with friends.
Krista Butler, a Wholistic Coach, has created two fantastic blog posts about raclette meals that I recommend checking out: Real Food Raclette Dinner Party and Behind the Scenes of a Raclette Dinner. She covers all the details you need for hosting your own raclette dinner party.
