East Coast Food Stories is a collection of visual and written stories that celebrate the way food connects us to our surroundings and each other. Inspired by the seaside lifestyle and the memories we make while gathered at the table, Michelle Doucette documents food culture in celebration of the traditions and innovations of people who are passionate about food.
I’m Michelle, a portrait, food and lifestyle photographer from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
My inspiration comes from our province’s unique seaside lifestyle and the memories we make while gathered at the table. Through my work, I celebrate the traditions and innovations of local people who are passionate about food, and explore how this connects us to our landscape and each other.
Join me as I explore the vibrant towns of New Glasgow, Stellarton, Pictou and the spirited community of River John. Highlights include delicious meals featuring local, seasonal produce, shopping for artisanal hand-crafted goods, learning about the Scottish heritage of Nova Scotia and enjoying the natural beauty of the Northumberland Shore.
Being a tourist in my own province is one of the best ways to discover regional eats and my stay in Pictou County introduced me to a wide variety of incredible flavours – from farmers, markets, food trucks, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants!
